Still, I Rise...

I cried many times yesterday at the loss of our first woman Presidential candidate.

And then, my daughter and I danced last night.

We danced to Beyoncé, Shakira, and Alicia. We danced and shook our gloriously, female bodies until the tears stopped flowing. If you haven't tried dancing as a form of therapy, I can highly recommend it...especially in the company of a young, bright, optimistic 13-year old.

This morning, I saw a post about how those of us who believe in progression had made our bed, and now we have to lie in it. And my resolve got stronger.

Lie in it? I'll be damned if I'm going to lie in it.

Together with an amazing community of women (and incredible men who believe in us), we have created a safe place at The Hivery where over a thousand women have come through our doors to create businesses, art, and non-profits; and work in an environment that believes in our worth, fights for equal pay, doesn't make lewd comments, and won't grab our private parts.

We have built an ecosystem where women-owned businesses can fund, partner, hire, support, and purchase from each other. We are activators in a radically generous, new SheEO funding model that funds women-owned ventures, knowing that only 3 percent of venture funding goes to women-owned businesses.

And, we are just getting started. Our true mission is to honor the unique gift that every woman has to offer this world.

You and I both know what women can do, and I guarantee you, we don't lie down. We rise.

It is with this conviction, that we announce our 'We Rise" Hivery scholarship program for talented beings who are making an impact in issues of equality. This is a scholarship program for those who work toward equal treatment of human beings regardless of gender, race, beliefs, age, income, or sexual orientation.

If you or someone you know is making an impact toward equality through work, kindness, or social good, please apply or share our 'We Rise" Hivery scholarship program application. One scholarship winner will be chosen this January (deadline to apply is Dec 20, 2016) by a panel of community leaders committed to social good.
