Writer's Circle with Guest Pamela Weymouth, Transforming Disaster into Laughter

Writer's Circle at The Hivery w/ Thais

A supportive group of writers who gather together every month at The Hivery to share resources, wisdom, experiences, and receive writer-to-writer support!

Curated by Thais Derich, a writing coach and author of forthcoming memoir, SECOND CHANCE, we discuss our writing goals; we offer our individual wisdom; we invite special guests to talk about their writing process; we come together in community and support one another.

Past guests have included Cynthia D'Aprix Sweeney, author of the best-seller novel THE NEST; Melissa Cistaro, author of NCIBA BEST NONFICTION BOOK OF 2015 winner PIECES OF MY MOTHER; Elizabeth Stark, author of SHY GIRL; Heather Young, author of LOST GIRLS.

After this gathering, we continue to cheer each other on while writing at The Hivery, attending other Hivery community events, workshops and participating in our online forums. Come join us!

Transforming Disaster into Laughter with Pamela Weymouth:

According to Mark Twain “The human race has only one great weapon and that is laughter.” Humor is an untapped tool for many writers. In this micro-intro to humor writing you’ll explore how to incorporate humor into your own writing, whether that be a book you’re working on or a story you’ve always wanted to tell.

For published writers and novices (or professionals with a speech to write) humor disarms readers and listeners, adding levity to dark matter.

Pamela will lead a lecture, a group discussion and an exercise, touching upon techniques used by writers from Anne Lamott to David Sedaris to Jazmin Darznik. This talk is a mini-version of a larger class Pamela teaches in which writers produce a full length essay and share their work at a final reading.

“I was so high after this class that I went home and wrote until 4 AM! Still exhausted but so worth it.”- Liz K.

“Excellent teacher… Exceeded my expectations — the process was just amazing… I loved the critiques” — Beth P.

"Pamela is an incredibly talented writer and editor.  She can look at my work and change what is average into spectacular.  Her background of an education in social work/psychology accompanied by a masters in creative writing, gives her the gift to see deeper into my writing, encouraging and pushing me to find meaning in an average funny story.  She gives each of my chapters the depth they were missing by asking questions that force me to look into my psyche.  She cares deeply about the success of her clients."-Lisa Gates, Private Coaching Client
