Inspiration Circle: Finding Openness and Aliveness Through Improv with Shannon Hughes

The Inspiration Circle is a facilitated group session all about personal development, discovery and exploration. Join us to connect with fellow members and come together in a welcoming group setting! This monthly event is a great opportunity to share motivation, ideas, coaching, and mentorship.

On March 28th, we are excited to welcome member, writer and performer Shanon Hughes to guide us through a connective experience that leverages improv theater and exercises to garner open-hearted communication and creative ideation.

In this Inspiration Circle we’ll come together as a collective of storytellers, creatives and business leaders to take improv theater off the stage and into The Hivery! Open our heart to "Yes, and..." through an experiential workshop filled with games, exercises and lively discussion around the impact of key improv principles to life, community and business.

As Keith Johnstone, a pioneer of improvisational theater says, “There are people who prefer to say 'yes' and there are people who prefer to say 'no'. Those who say 'yes' are rewarded by the adventures they have. Those who say 'no' are rewarded by the safety they attain.”

Let’s choose to discover the power of “yes” together!

Key takeaways for participants from this workshop include:

  • An understanding of improv as a path to personal and professional aliveness.

  • A sampling of games to support collaboration, improve communication and spark creative decision making.

  • Play based tools to quiet the ego in lieu of non-judgemental engagement.

Improv is all about kicking our ego-based thinking mind to the curb, in favor of uninhibited play. Neurological studies abound, touting the impacts that improv has on performers' brains - boosting self-expression activity in our prefrontal cortex, while blocking self-monitoring activity. From that place comes freer communication, creative flow and connection. Oh, and it's a whole lot of fun to boot!

This valuable workshop is not to be missed so be sure to grab your seat!

As seats are limited, advance online registration is required. Free for members. $30 for non-members. This is a BYO brown-bag lunch discussion. All are welcome!
