Hivery Circle: Sisterhood Shaking Up Tech Featuring Samantha Walravens

This month’s Hivery Circle will feature award-winning author, Samantha Walravens.

Samantha takes The Hivery stage to share her incredible story and latest book, Geek Girl Rising: Inside the Sisterhood Shaking Up Tech.  This acclaimed book introduces readers to the new generation of women disrupting “business as usual” in the male-dominated startup world. Not content to let the digital revolution pass them by, these women are going of it: building tech start-ups, investing in each other’s ventures, crushing male hacker stereotypes, creating networks of support and rallying their younger sisters.

Samantha and co-author, Heather Cabot, veteran journalists — and moms of young “geek girls,” spent the last four years interviewing dozens of women in technology to figure out why it’s so hard to recruit women into the tech industry– and why so many drop out mid-career. What they uncovered is a powerful new wave of female technologists and entrepreneurs who haven’t been waiting on Silicon Valley to embrace them to follow their dreams. They are launching their own companies, writing code, investing in startups, and inspiring and educating the next generation of women in tech. These “geek girls rising” are making their mark on the tech world and forging new paths to success on their own terms.

Join us for this special evening all about celebrating the power of inspiration and connection among the community of ambitious entrepreneurial women who are shaking up the “boys club” inside Silicon Valley and beyond! Signed copies of this incredible book will be available for purchase at the end of the program.

Guests will enjoy a tasting of local wines from True Myth Wines. Lite bites will be served by A Purified Life and a organic chocolate tasting by Live A Lot! This Tuesday evening happy hour is the perfect way to celebrate #womendoingcoolstuff.

Don’t hesitate to come alone and mingle with your Hivery community or feel free to bring a friend.

ALL ARE WELCOME at this beautiful celebration of women!

Praise for Geek Girl Rising

I don’t know much about tech, but I do know that these pioneer women are pretty dope. Geek Girl Rising gives a much-needed voice to the fearless women paving an important path in the tech world, while forming a lasting sisterhood along the way.
— KELLY RIPA, Talk show host, Television producer
Geek Girl Rising is the roadmap for the next generation of women not just to get involved in the tech world, but to lead their own tech startups. The challenges are real, but Geek Girl Rising shows women how to rise to those challenges and overcome them. It’s the rallying cry we need for a diverse, connected, and sustainable world.
