Every morning, after dropping her two sons off at school, Mary Michael Pringle would go in search of a place to work.
Pringle rotated among a familiar circuit of local coffee shops, anxiously hoping to hit the freelancing jackpot: a table large enough to house both her coffee and her laptop, not to mention high-speed Wi-Fi and a nearby electrical outlet...
Female-focused coworking spaces have become quite the niche in a workplace trend that for both genders has seen a fierce rise in past years. According to German market research firm Statista, there were 7,800 coworking spaces worldwide in 2015, a figure projected to surge to 37,000 by 2018.
The Hivery, a women-only coworking space in Mill Valley, California, originally reserved a bus to transport 40 members to the San Francisco march. Within a week, the group booked six more. As one Hivery member put it, "We have been living in a bubble, and we can no longer take for granted protection of our rights as women, as human beings."
