Let’s Talk: Conversations Across Differences {Mill Valley, CA}
An Evening with Joan Blades, founder of MoveOn and Living Room Conversations
Hosted by the Democracy Hour at The Hivery
Wednesday, April 29 | 6:30–8:30 PM
475 Miller Ave, Suite A, Mill Valley, CA
Join us for an honest, hopeful conversation about what it means to be an engaged citizen right now, and how we can show up more consciously and meaningfully with others who see things differently.
With our experienced guide, Joan Blades, we’ll learn how structured, intimate conversations can empower us to discuss important issues with friends of differing backgrounds and political affiliations. We’ll also hear how Joan got started as an activist, why and how she pivoted from MoveOn to LRC, and how her current work is relevant and impactful right now.
This evening is all about hope, empowerment, and gaining practical skills—including how to initiate and facilitate conversations across differences, how to handle moments of tension, and how communities can apply this in real time. There will be time to connect with other attendees before and after our conversation and Q&A.
Curious how conversations can connect communities with diverse experiences? Read this piece Joan just co-authored for The Fulcrum.
Our guest, Joan Blades, is co-founder of LivingRoomConversations.org, AllSides.com, MomsRising.org, and MoveOn.org, as well as co-author of The Custom-Fit Workplace and The Motherhood Manifesto. A mediator (attorney) by training and inclination, she believes in the power of citizens and our need for connection through respectful discourse while embracing our core shared values.
The Democracy Hour is a monthly gathering of local women who believe deeply in democracy, and in the power of showing up and taking meaningful action.
Everyone is welcome at this event.
