The Three Identities with Amber Allen-Pierson
Hosted by Amber Allen Pierson at The Hivery | February 19 | 12 - 1 PM | Mill Valley, CA
This week's discussion topic is: The Three Identities
This member-led meetup will be hosted by Amber Allen Pierson
From Amber Allen Pierson: I’ll be sharing a mental framework I call the Three Identities to help us understand how identity is shaped in our minds and in our relationships.
Self-Identified Identity is who we know ourselves to be—our inner truth, values, and lived experience. Ascribed Identity is who others and society tell us we are, often based on roles, labels, or assumptions placed on us over time. These two identities are often in conversation, and sometimes in conflict.
The third is Projected Identity—the identity we place onto other people. This happens when we assign meaning, intention, or character to someone based on our own beliefs, wounds, or conditioning. Projected identity asks us to take responsibility for what we are putting onto others and to pause before assuming we understand who someone is. When we become aware of projection, we open the door to clearer communication, healthier boundaries, and more authentic connections.
Together, these three identities are constantly interacting—shaping how we see ourselves, how we see others, and how we relate—and exploring them helps us interrupt misunderstanding, reduce harm, and choose presence over assumption in our relationships.
